I went to see this movie with my wife, and my sons, age 14 and 19 on Christmas Eve. I thoroughly enjoyed it as escapist’s entertainment. One of the best films ever! I thought the effects were great and the story somewhat easy to follow. It should be taken as is, a great way to escape the world and visit another place and time. My boys loved it, my wife said it was if George Clooney was in it. I don’t enjoy movies much in the theater, usually bad seating and I can’t wait to view this on DVD, where I can relax with surround sound. I recently purchased the Lord of the Rings Trilogy books, so I am looking forward to getting up to speed and enjoy the upcoming sequels. I recommend it highly.

Going through the other reviews, I have to say I am a bit disappointed. There are multiple reviews that begin to explain how the film was a bad adaptation of the book, the scenes that shouldn’t be cut, the characters, blah blah. I read all 3 of the books of Lord Of The Rings, alongside Hobbit, I watched the film. Despite the fact I already knew the plot, I tried to just forget what I read and try to relive the story, behind director Jackson’s eyes. Seeing The Fellowship of the Ring was a life-time experience for me. Surely the best film I’ve ever seen, perfect from every aspect. I was struck by just about everything in this masterpiece. Exceeding every expectation, the film is maybe the new Star Wars of our time (only Star Wars enjoyed the advantage that there wasn’t a book to be compared to. The effects are absolutely ground-breaking. The scenes, the camera movement is setting new limits to film-making and both the casting and the acting is brilliant. No need to criticize, if you like to find bad things about this movie, you need to try really hard. All I know is that if the movie had the hype of Titanic or even Harry Potter (movies drawn in mediocrity) everyone would live for 3 hours (and 6 to come) in the fantastic world of Tolkin.
